Who we are: “Being Positive” is a joint initiative by Care Help Charitable Trust and Molecular Solutions Care Health. We are a group of infectious diseases physicians and doctoral level scientists committed to helping people access advanced molecular diagnostic tests to ease medical decision making in complicated and chronic diseases.
What we do:
a) Large number of infected and affected: India has over
2 million HIV infected
15 million HCV infected and
40 million HBV-infected people
b) High cost of life-saving, advanced, molecular diagnostic tests:
Treatment for each of these chronic, viral, life-threatening infections depends on the amount of virus (viral load) and the type of virus (subtype and drug resistance profile). Effective treatment requires information about which drugs can be used and how much of the drugs need to be used. The tests that answer these questions are advanced molecular-biology based diagnostics. Viral loads and drug resistance genotyping tests typically cost about Rs.4000-5500 and Rs.10,000-14,000 (this includes sample collection, transport, processing and so on) respectively. These costs make the tests inaccessible to the very people who are in most need of them.
c) Lack of sufficiently trained physicians to interpret the results: Drug resistance genotyping for HIV is a fairly complex test. But medical decision making in view of the results are even more complex. It requires physicians who have specialized training and experience in treating these infectious diseases.
d) Lack of laboratories offering these advanced tests: Very few labs in the country offer drug resistance genotyping. India has less than 10 labs in the entire country offering this test.
Our solution:
MSCH subsidizes cost of drug resistance test to Rs. 6000/ and that of viral load to Rs. 4000/.
Patient pays what they can.
Remainder of the cost of tests is borne by donations.
We request you to donate generously to the Being Positive initiative and be a crucial part of saving lives, families and communities from these devastating infections.
